Charter Rates

(effective 7/1/07; updated November 8, 2007)
Charters are calculated on the higher of either an hourly rate or a per mile rate.

41- and 29-Passenger Buses
The charter rates for 41 and 29 passenger buses are: $60.00 per hour or $2.50 per live mile (bus is loaded) or $2.25 per deadhead mile (bus is empty). 2-hour ($120) minimum weekdays; 3-hour ($180) minimum weekends.

If an hourly rate is charged, a minimum of one hour is added to cover the time that is required to drive from the facility to the Ithaca area pick up location and from the drop off point back to the CU Transit Charters garage. This charge also covers the time for the driver to conduct a mandatory pre- and post-safety check of the charter vehicle.

Currently, there are two 41 passenger and two 29 passenger buses. Range of operation: within New York State.

Other Charges

Hourly Rates
Hourly rates are based on a 2 hours minimum during the week (Monday-Friday) and 3 hours on weekends (Saturday & Sunday). After the hourly minimums are met, billing will be computed to the nearest tenth of an hour. Thus, if the vehicle is used for 4 hours and 10 minutes, the bill would be charged at 4.2 hours times the hourly rate.

Overnight charges
$200 for trip durations of more than 14 hours. On multiple-day trips overnight charges are $200 per night.

Other charges
Tolls, bridge charges, park entrance, and parking fees are not included in the above prices.
A deposit/cleaning fee may be required at the discretion of CU Transit Charters.

A fuel surcharge is added to all trips over 50 miles when the purchase price of fuel goes over $2.00 per gallon.

Cancellations
Notification of any cancellations must be during regular business hours, excluding holidays, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the scheduled pick up time will be subject to the minimum charge for the vehicle chartered.

Holiday Charters
If a charter falls on a Cornell University holiday (Thanksgiving Day & the following Friday, Winter Break: Dec. 25-Jan. 1, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day), then the hourly rates would be increased by 150 percent, to cover increased costs for employee’s holiday pay rates (over time).
